Spa Filter Maintenance

If you find your spa is not heating properly, the power light is flashing, or the spa just won’t operate, it could simply be an indication of dirty filters restricting the water flow.  A service call to correct a clogged filter problem is not covered under your spa warranty, and would result in us having to charge for the call.

Filters are the hardest working components in your spa.  Ensure the best water quality for our family by taking care of your filters and replacing them regularly.  Lengthen the time between draining and refilling your spa by following these maintenance tips:

Rinse filter(s) off using the high-pressure nozzle of your garden hose every four weeks.

Clean your filters(s) monthly by soaking in a solution of Filter Fresh and water for 12 hours, then rinse.  Filters may appear clean, but may be plugged enough to cause a heater problem due to reduced flow.  Filter Fresh will remove the body oils and minerals the clog pores in the filter material.  For best results, let the filters dry thoroughly before placing them back in the spa.

You will need new filters if:

  • You haven’t replaced them in 2-3 years.
  • The filter is brown or gray and stays a dark-yellow color after cleaning.
  • The filtering element (the pleated part) becomes flat and loses it fibrous sheen.
  • The filter top or bottom has a crack or split.
  • The filter element starts to shred or come apart.
  • Maintain proper water chemistry at all times.

Have two sets of filters to minimize down-time and use on an alternating basis.  Put the clean set in the spa and soak the dirty set. Rinse off before using your spa.
